Executive Director
Background: Founded in 1979, the Arts and Humanities Council for Avoyelles Inc (Arts Council) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate, encourage, nurture, and promote the arts and humanities in the parish of Avoyelles. It accomplishes that mission through initiatives that focus on arts education in the schools, arts programming in the community, arts advocacy, and programs that nurture and support our local artists and arts organizations. The Arts Council’s office and gallery is located in Marksville, Louisiana at 122 E Mark Street, Suite B.
Position Available: The Arts Council seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as a Executive Director to advance the mission and agenda of the organization. The Arts Council provides innovative programs and services to artists, arts organizations, educators, youth and the general public. The executive director will be required to work approximately 20 hours per week on average, including some weekend and after hours.
Responsibilities: The Executive Director serves as the face of the Arts Council, working directly under the Executive Committee of the Arts Council and working very closely with and reporting to, the Board of Directors.
Primary areas of responsibility include:
Program Management – implements and supervises programs and services that are consistent with the organization’s mission and that meet the needs of community.
Community Relations – serve as chief spokesperson for the Arts Council in the community and develops effective working relationships within the community (both within the arts community and elsewhere) to ensure that the arts are represented in the community-at-large and for the constituency that the Arts Council serves.
Conducts all business at the highest standard of integrity ensuring that all activities are legal and ethical.
Assist with and attend Avoyelles Arts and Music July 4th Festival
Attend all Gallery Art Shows and Youth Art Shows
Primary duties (not a complete listing):
Hang and curate gallery exhibits– this includes receptions and exhibit viewing
Design graphics and layouts for all exhibits and promotional materials for projects, programs, and exhibits
Monitor and maintain Arts Council social media and website and quarterly newsletter
Maintain membership data base and communications with members
Organize and maintain office space and storage unit
Minor physical labor
Experience/Qualifications:
Experience in working with a Board of Directors and the public in a non-profit or for profit setting
Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to positively motivate and develop potential board members and volunteers.
Visionary and innovative thinker.
Ability to work collaboratively with all sectors of the community and Board of Directors.
Compensation: Hourly rate to be determined, based on education and experience. Potential range of $11 -$15 per hour.
Estimated 24 to 30 hours per week. Some evenings and weekend work required.
Starting Date: On or before March 1, 2026.
